Jamie “Tree60” Callan has returned to EPIC.LAN for the first time since February last year, playing with K10 before they ceased operations Tree60 made it all the way to the finals where he faced of against Owen “Smooya” Butterfield’s The Neighbours roster. Haven fallen 1-2 in the finals, Tree60 is back with a vengeance. Playing with the ALASKA core that won EPIC.LAN 43, Tree60 replaces the French AWPer Remi “Diviiii” Alexandre, he has big shoes to fill but appears to be filling them with ease as they dropped only five rounds across the whole of their seven group stage matches.
After departing K10, Tree60 made his way to GamerLegion Academy, the tier two teams academy roster was after him for a while and were initially unsuccessful in getting him to join but eventually GamerLegion Academy wishes came true. Announced on the 5th of August 2024, Tree60‘s stint lasted 169 days before GamerLegion’s academy project ceased operations.
After leaving GamerLegion Tree60 sought to return to competition by asking to stand in with ALASKA, arTisT and co have been wanting to link up with Tree60 for a while so they leapt at the opportunity to add him to the roster. Speaking to UKCSGO Tree60 talks about his time in Gamerlegion, joining up with ALASKA shares his thoughts on the VRS ranking system.
How are you finding epic so far?
It’s going really well I haven’t been since February last year so its really nice to be back and we’ve won all our games quite convincingly so far so I’m really happy with that.
I want to begin by pivoting to talking about Gamerlegion, you spent some time with Gamerlegion academy, how did you go about joining that?
I believe when I was still with K10, I had Leaf, he messaged me asking if I’d like to trial, but I declined that at the time. Then I messaged them once my time with K10 came to an end and then they set up the trial as they’d just lost a player and it just worked out like that.
Talking about roster changes that happened whilst you were there.
Yeah we lost LVN and leaf and they brought in Tenzki and Adam9130.
How did you feel about those roster changes whilst you were there?
I wasn’t really happy with the roster changes, it felt like we just got into the groove of things. I’d been announced I think not even 30 days prior and we’d just made playoffs in advanced and came fourth in the regular season. They kinda just kicked them.
Do you think there was a world where you had a higher skill ceiling with your replacements or do you think you ridden out the original roster for longer?
In the end it didn’t actually matter who the IGL was and who the coach was, it felt like the whole project, the way it was structured wasn’t very beneficial to anyone involved. I sort of regret joining them [GamerLegion academy] in the first place.
Pivoting to Alaska, they’ve been wanting to play with you for a long time, now you’ve joined how did that come about?
Kind of the same way i got into GamerLegion Academy I saw that they had just lost a player, I believe Leaf had to go an finish his studies so I messaged arTisT do you need any stand-ins for anything. From that I played one event with them, I think I only trialed for two days with them and then they made the decision that I’d be joining the team.
Alaska’s doing really well in Europe at the moment, you’ve got the VRS points. How do you feel about the VRS system and do you have your eyes set on the MRQ to get in towards the Major?
I think that the VRS as a whole is a system with a lot of holes right now, But personally for us its really good. I’ve heard that if we win this event that we’ll get a lot of points for the ranking as well. So for us specifically it works really well but obviously for other teams, especially in the UK, that getting onto those rankings is really hard and I feel it needs to get looked at by valve.
